How to Hire

Follow this step by step guide on how to hire a cart from us:

book

Book

You don’t have to book a cart, you can just turn up on the day you wish to hire a vehicle, but to ensure there is a cart available, we recommend you book first. You can do that by calling us on the number above.

arrive

Arrive

Come to our Porthmellon location on the day you want to hire. We open at 9am and if you haven’t pre-booked, the sooner you get to us, the more likely that there’ll be a cart available for you.

register

Every driver needs to spend 5 minutes completing a hire agreement form before they can drive the cart. This ensures that you are fully covered on our 3rd party insurance. Click here to see a copy of the form. You’ll also need to provide your driving licence to ensure you are who you say you are!

pay

You need to pay for your hire. Fortunately we accept cash and all major credit and debit cards

learn

Our friendly staff will talk you round the vehicle, ensure that you understand all the controls and that you are comfortable with how to operate the cart. If you want to revise before you get here, check out the Vehicle Controls page.

drive

Drive

You are now free to enjoy the island of St. Mary’s – be safe and drive as if you would in a normal car, being aware of the road and other users of it.

return

Return

If you’ve only hired the cart for a day, you need to make sure you come back before 5:30pm to return your vehicle. We’ll check you in and make sure everything was OK.

Please Note

  • A current full driving licence is needed in order to hire and drive a cart.
  • Drivers must be aged between 25 and 75
  • Day hire is from 9:00am to 5:30pm
  • Pre-booked carts must be picked up between 9:00am and 10:00am unless previously arranged otherwise
  • Our insurance covers only the designated passenger capacity of each cart (i.e. 2 people in a 2 seater)
  • Carts can only be driven on tarmacked roads (on the left hand side!). You must not drive on paths, beaches or in the sea!
  • In the town the yellow lines mean no parking unless you display a disabled blue badge. Even then you must be aware of other road users and park sensibly
  • You must return the cart in the same condition as you hired it, aside from reasonable wear and tear. Charges will be made for misuse
